When I was a young I spent time with my grandfather, an architect, in his office watching him draw and sketch. I would sit on a stool at his drafting table drawing fantastical creatures and buildings with little sense of the real-world. For birthdays and holidays, he gave me drafting tools as gifts and taught me how to use them. His work inspired me from an early age to look at the world through a creative lens. I learned to look, think and react to the world around me. These were the foundations for my future in design.
The memories I have with my grandfather propelled me down a path that I never expected. They pushed me to study architecture and graphic design at Lawrence Tech earning my BFA in 2010. This drove an interest in how information is communicated to individuals; and in turn how they understood the information provided.
I continued my education at Cranbrook Academy of Art earning my MFA in 2013. While there I studied in the 3D design department focusing on furniture and product design. This was the next step for me to understand how people interpret and shape their world.
I believe design is about people and how tools are used to experience the world around them. Whether tools are on a digital screen or a comfortable piece of furniture; individuals choose objects to help navigate their world. Design that focuses on providing real solutions is exciting and inspires me more and more.
